Today we learned the three new terms about light energy.

  • transparent- allowing light to pass through so that objects behind can be clearly seen
  • translucent-  allowing light, but not detailed images, to pass through
  • opaque- not able to be seen through

An example of these three properties is below:

The opaque panel shows that light does not go through the material, therefore you cannot see the giraffe.

The translucent panel shows that light somewhat travels through the material, and you can see some of the giraffe, but it is not clear.

The transparent panel shows that light filters through the material perfectly, allowing you to see a perfect image of the giraffe.
